Bio
Suska Varda is a vocalist, musician, artist, actress and a mom. Originally from Rye New York, Suska heard the voice of Streisand from the womb and emerged into the world wailing "Don't Rain on my Parade". She has been inspired by the greatest of the female vocalists including but not limited to Barbra, Bessie, Billie, Grace, Dagmar, Janis and Judy. As a young adult she experimented with bands like Gong, Gentle Giant, Frank Zappa and Henry Cow. Suska is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts where she studied traditional western, eastern and extended vocal techniques and performed with Celtic, Javanese and North and South Indian ensembles specializing in voice. Suska performs as “Hot Kugel” a San Francisco Bay area klezmer ensemble in which she sings in Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino and English, and plays mandolin and guitar. She also appears as “Princess and the Pirate” a folk duo who specialize in songs of the sea, Celtic jigs and reels and an array of world folk and children’s music. Suska teaches and performs for children of all ages and delights in sharing her love and joy of music.
